Scientific and technological advancements in strategic sectors such as aerospace, nuclear research, defence and energy have motivated and driven the development of advanced materials with superior properties suitable for operation under extreme conditions. The selection of metallic materials for such applications requires careful consideration of diverse scientific, technological, environmental and commercial factors. A strong synergy among material scientists, designers, process engineers, fabricators and quality controllers are essential to address the challenges associated with advanced systems for these sectors. Therefore, an integrated multidisciplinary approach involving R&D organizations, academic institutions and industries is crucial to achieving this synergy.

ICAMPS 2012, 2015 and 2018 were successfully organized with the participation of experts in materials science from India and abroad. In continuation, ICAMPS 2026 aims to provide a platform for experts from various R&D laboratories, academic institutions and industries to share their scientific and technical expertise, as well as research findings on relevant topics. The conference will also facilitate interactions on emerging global trends and challenges in these areas. It is expected that deliberations among professionals will help define future directions and contribute to a comprehensive approach towards meeting the goals of strategic sectors with respect to planning, processing, characterization and application of advanced materials and manufacturing processes in the years ahead. The conference is expected to foster collaboration and innovation in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies for strategic applications. The conference topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas. Contributions in related domains are also welcome.

The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) is a premier professional society representing the family of metallurgists and materials engineers and scientists in India. IIM was formed in 1947 with the objectives of promoting and advancing the study and practice of science and technology of metals and alloys and fostering the interests of metallurgists and materials engineers. With its headquarters at Kolkata, the activities of the Institute are conducted through 3 divisions and 51 chapters spread across the country. The Institute is recognised and supported by the Government of India through the Ministry of Steel. The IIM, Trivandrum Chapter was established in 1979. Today, in its long professional and technical journey, it has become a nodal platform for the metallurgists, materials engineers and scientists of the chapter covering R&D organisations like VSSC, CSIR- NIIST, LPSC, IIST, SCTIMST and industries like Brahmos, IREL, Travancore Titanium Products (Ltd)

After the approval of the Governing body, the Trivandrum chapter of the IIM came into existence from January 1980 under the Chairmanship of Prof. P. K. Rohtagi, the then Director of Regional Research Laboratory, Trivandrum currently, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Trivandrum. Since then, the chapter has been very active and has organised twenty one National Seminars and conducted three workshops with a wide participation of the metallurgical community from all parts of the country.

In the Year 1987, the young chapter had the proud privilege of hosting the prestigious Silver Jubilee Session of the National Metallurgist Day (NMD) and 41st Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) of the Indian Institute of Metals at Trivandrum. Again in the year 2004, the Chapter had hosted 42nd National Metallurgist Day, 58th Annual Technical Meeting and International Symposium on Metal and Materials from Titanium Minerals at Trivandrum. The Chapter has also instituted Prof. Brahma Prakash Memorial Lecture to commemorate the services rendered by late Dr. Brahma Prakash to the chapter. This is held as a part of the National Seminar being conducted every year by the chapter. For the benefit of the members, the chapter is regularly arranging lectures from distinguished metallurgists visiting this region either alone or in association with other professional bodies. Through Metnews, the chapter newsletter, the chapter publishes the important professional activities of the members. To promote interest on metals and materials among the students, chapter also arrange Metals and Materials Quiz programme for the students of the schools of this region. The winners of this competition are selected to represent the chapter in the national level Prof. Brahma Prakash Memorial Materials Quiz being held every year at IGCAR, Kalpakkam. Over the years the members of the chapter had won many prestigious IIM and NMD awards in addition to many other awards conferred for their professional excellence.

As on today, the chapter has over 200 members from R&D organisations such as VSSC (ISRO), CSIR-NIIST, LPSC, IIST, SCTIMST and industries like Brahmos, IREL and Carborundum Universal.
